Jan Team Challenge - BBArtisans Team

One of the Etsy teams I belong to is the Blogging Business Artisans and for January, our monthly theme is to create something using a technique we haven’t used before.

Here are the supplies I chose for this necklace and earrings set

I adapted the design from a beading magazine using fluorite, Chinese unakite, Feldspar, and tiny tourmaline gemstone beads.

For the necklace, attach 2 pieces of chain to a toggle clasp (my signature clasp).

Then, add the beads to a wire and wrap the ends into a chain link. Easy peasy.

The earrings are what inspired me to make this design:

Attach 2 pieces of chain to a (fishhook) earwire. String beads onto a wire (they match the necklace) and wrap the ends to the 2 chain links.

I like the earthy tones of this jewelry set and the chance to use my fluorite and unakite gemstones.

Friday Fun - Julie Andrews turns 69

I got this in an email and though it was cute.

To commemorate her birthday, actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan’s Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP.
One of the musical numbers she performed was ‘My Favorite Things‘ from the legendary movie ‘Sound Of Music‘. Here are the lyrics she used:

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,

As I'm still recovering from bronchitis, I stayed home this weekend and got to watch some movies. I found 3 that I really liked.

Nobody's Fool - Paul Newman, Bruce Willis, Jessica Tandy - a wonderful movie showing Paul Newman's versatility to play a stubborn man, a father trying to do better, and the average Joe. Jessica Tandy is Newman's landlady and their interactions are touching, friendly, and caring.

The King's Speech - Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush - Based on a true story - Colin Firth plays King George VI who is forced to take the throne after his brother abdicates to marry Mrs. Simpson. Both men are outstanding in their roles. I may have enjoyed it more being at home. Geoffrey Rush is amazing as an unconventional diction "teacher."

Father's Little Dividend - Spencer Tracey, Joan Bennett, Elizabeth Taylor - Everyone is probably more familiar with the newer one with Steve Martin, Diane Keaton and Martin Short (the wedding planner), but the original in black and white is in a class by itself. Spencer Tracey acts like a plain guy who becomes a grandfather, powerless over his family once the baby arrives. Classic Tracey eye gestures, which make him so lovable.

New Beads

Checklist

I"m working my way through my checklists of things to be done.

The first item I completed today was organizing all my cardmaking supplies, ink and card stock into a plastic container. I went through some paperwork I found about crafts I'm not interested in and am throwing it out. I also found a few jewelry design sheets of ideas I haven't gotten around to yet, and I've just purchased the perfect beads for 1 project.

I then dusted all the bedroom furniture and cleaned the mirrored tray on top of my dresser and rearranged a few things on top of it. It looks a lot better now. I also cleaned off part of my drafting table/photo studio.

In the office bedroom, I am working on putting away Hanukkah decorations and storing plastic and acrylic beads before deciding what I am going to do with them.

While I still have a ton of receipts and tax paperwork to go through, I'm feeling good about these accomplishments.

Hopefully, the bedroom project and pulling out a TV pillow will be the ticket I need for my bronchitis and not being able to sleep well the past few nights. And later, I want to smudge the room with sage.

Yesterday, I made a few new jewelry pieces and have several more ideas and a checklist of items to make with new supplies.

It sure is good to be feeling better.

TGIF - Long Day

It's going to be a long day. I'm 4:30 am and I haven't been able to sleep. Hubby's hours keep changing and I just sleep so much better when he's around.

The worst thing is that I usually read before bed, but I started a Dean Koontz book, 77 Shadow Street and it spooked me. So, even with the lights on, I couldn't settle down. Think it'll be a lunchtime book instead.

I got a few things done in my Etsy shop for Valentine's Day. Who says you have to wear red jewelry?

Also, I watched a DVD I purchased on Herringbone wire wrapping. This is one of my goals for 2012, to make something using that form of wrap.

Speaking of goals, here's a short list:

Eat more nutritious foods and fewer processed foods
Let go of addictions
Create fun jewelry designs and promote, but set time limits
Organize craft supplies and get rid of clutter
Do IL State taxes for business
Evaluate the teams that I'm on and my participation
Update my personal Website www.linorstore.com (it's neglected)
Send out surveys to newest clients and update and evaluate results
Continue inputting numbers on spreadsheets for taxes (compare against receipts)

Have you set your goals? I'm also seeing how I did compared to last years. I know I didn't reach my total number of sales, but I pulled the number out of the air.

Aw, that's the alarm, so I gotta run.
