June 4 Blog Carnival - EtsyBloggers Team

This blog carnival assignment is to "Tell us about your Grandfather or Great-Grandfather. Does he like Etsy/would he have liked Etsy? Was he crafty? 


My paternal grandpa, Louis, was a carpenter in New Jersey. He was a terrific people person and would stop mothers with baby carriages on the street to talk to the baby and mom. He was a very religious man, enjoyed life and his family. 


It's too bad that I don't remember what he made, but I have seen custom built-in kitchen cabinets that my Uncle Eli made. 


Also, my dad built several items for my dolls: a china cabinet for tea parties, a playpen to hold my dolls, and when I got older, he built a corner desk for me. I searched online, but didn't see any similar  pictures to share. 


When he passed away, may his memory be for a blessing, I didn't have a place to put these items, so they were donated. 


There is one item that I still have, a bookcase that he built and stained, which my parents used as a bar. It has sliding doors and I have my TV, VCR and cablebox on it in the bedroom. 

Computers weren't part of their generation, but I'm sure they all would have supported Etsy and small businesses. 


By the way, it's very fitting that these my uncle and my dad were veterans in WWII. My uncle was stationed in Italy and my dad was in Burma. So, I am pleased to share my memories of such good men with you.

Cancer - What Can You Do About It?

Unfortunately, cancer affects many of our lives through friends and loved ones either battling the disease or worse, losing the battle and passing away. My most recent experience is through an online friend, a teammate who died. She underwent an experimental treatment and, it's sad, but it didn't work.

Seven years ago, my favorite aunt died from brain cancer which was diagnosed only 8 months before.  One of my cousins really did his best - he moved her into his home and took her for treatments and arranged a birthday party in August, her last birthday, and she had a grand time. We all did. I'm grateful that I had a chance to visit her on the east coast before she died; I was her surprise. She died in October. 

My mom battled lung cancer and parts of both lungs were removed. I was newly married and in college, and at the time, surgery was the best option. They removed the cancer, but she died of a heart problem. This was in 1977, but I miss her terribly still.

So, you're reading all this sadness and thinking what can I do? How can I help? I'm having a fundraiser for the Susan G Komen Cancer Fund, so part of your purchases will go to help cancer research. Friday – It’s Gotta Get Better

The birds woke up the cats, who woke me up at 4 am. Do your cats lick plastic bags? Isn’t the sound like scratching a challkboard? So, between the happy chirping and bag licking, I couldn’t sleep and got up at 4 am.

This is Buddy, the bag licker, who is now opening the closet door (bifold)

And, what did I do next? Got on the PC of course to see what’s happening at Etsy and upload some new photos.

Then, Homer jumped into my lap and scratched me with his back claws (not to outdo his bag-licking brother – he now licks bags too). So cute when he’s asleep! :)
